Trust & Safety

How we protect homeowners — and what you should know before hiring any contractor.

License Verification

Every contractor listed on our platform is verified against their state licensing board before being included. We check that the license is active, in the correct trade category, and held by the business entity listed.

Insurance Requirements

We flag contractors who carry general liability insurance and workers' compensation. Hiring an uninsured contractor puts your home and finances at risk — we make insurance status visible on every profile.

Review Authenticity

All ratings and review counts are sourced directly from Google. We do not allow contractors to submit their own reviews or manipulate their ratings. Review data is pulled from public sources and updated periodically.

Data Protection

Your contact information is only shared with contractors relevant to your quote request. We do not sell your data to third parties or use it for unrelated marketing without your consent.

Red Flags to Watch For

Even with a verified contractor, always protect yourself. Walk away if a contractor:

  • Asks for full payment upfront before any work begins
  • Cannot provide a valid state contractor license number
  • Pressures you to sign a contract immediately
  • Offers a price dramatically lower than all other quotes
  • Refuses to provide a written contract or scope of work
  • Has no verifiable business address or online presence
  • Asks you to pull your own permits (licensed contractors do this themselves)
  • Demands cash-only payment

Before You Hire — Your Checklist

  • Verify the contractor's license directly at your state licensing board website
  • Ask for proof of general liability insurance and workers' compensation
  • Get at least 3 written quotes before deciding
  • Never pay more than 10–30% upfront — pay the rest upon completion
  • Get a written contract with a detailed scope of work, timeline, and payment schedule
  • Check that permits will be pulled by the contractor (not you)
  • Read recent Google reviews — look for patterns, not just the overall rating

Report a Problem

If you had a negative experience with a contractor found through our platform, we want to know. Reports help us maintain listing quality and protect other homeowners.

Email us at safety@gettrustedcontractors.com with the contractor name, your city, and a description of the issue. We review all reports and take action where warranted, including removal from our listings.

Our Limits

Get Trusted Contractors is a referral and information platform. We do not perform contracting work, guarantee contractor quality, or mediate disputes between homeowners and contractors. Always verify license status directly with your state licensing board before hiring.
